By default, WordPress allows you to add categories to posts, but not to pages. However, with the help of plugins like Meta Box, you can easily assign categories to your WordPress pages. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it using the Meta Box plugin:
Install and Activate Meta Box Plugin
- Go to your WordPress dashboard.
- Navigate to Plugins > Add New.
- Search for “Meta Box”.
- Install and activate the plugin.
- Go to Extensions tab
- Download MB Custom Post Type
- Navigate to Plugins > Add New.
- Click Upload Plugin and browse for downloaded MB Custom Post Type plugin
- Add it, click Install Now and activate the plugin.
Create a Custom Taxonomy for Pages
- Once the plugin is activated, go to Meta Box > Post Types & Taxonomies in your WordPress dashboard.
- Click on the “Start Now” button to create Custom Taxonomies
- Fill the name fields (e.g., Page Category).
- In the Advanced tab, tick on Hierarchical and Show admin column.
- In the Post Types tab, assign taxonomy for Page and remove for Post
- Click Publish
This method allows you to organise your WordPress pages efficiently, making your site more user-friendly and navigable, especially if you have a large number of pages. Keep in mind that this is a workaround, and handling categories in this way may not be as seamless as it is with posts, but it does provide a viable solution for those who need more organisational flexibility with their pages.
